Selfship AU idea 4/?
Title/Name: Asgardian!AU Genre: Action, Drama,
Selfship(s):  -Bloki (Romantic)
Trigger warnings?: -Child ab*se/General ab*se/Parental neglect/Trauma bonding/Ostracization -War/War crimes (It's Asgard, after all.) -S*icide/S*icide attempts -Kidnapping, Torture, Brainwashing (Aka What's going on with Loki before and during Avengers.) -Death/Death themes
Tropes?: -Childhood friends to lovers
Changes: -Copycat/Blake is now an Asgardian/from Asgard, rather than Earth + All the changes that come with that. -Blake Blackmore --> Brynjar Einarson -Timing of Blake's 'death' changed slightly.
Basic plot:
(It's super long, oops.)
In Asgard, long ago, there was a fairly well-of family who was close with Odin's father, Bor. The father of this family, Erik, was known as a ruthless warrior, easily and swiftly dispatching his enemies in combat. It was, however, this same ruthless behavior that eventually caused him to fall out of favor of Bor, who realized Erik was a maniac, genocidal, arrogant, and cruel. Clear in that he neglected his sons, in particular his youngest, Einar, and dedicated all his time to searching for trouble.
Erik eventually went too far one day, as, while on the battlefield, he murdered a high-ranking Asgardian soldier for no reason other than 'he got in the way'. As punishment, Bor sent Erik to the dungeons, where Erik finally realized his mistakes and wished for help and guidance from anyone who could hear him. ...The one who responded was 'Mistress Death', the embodiment of death herself. The Mistress, who had been lonely all this time, made an offer to Erik: She would use her power to get Erik out of this situation, and in exchange, Erik would give her the first son of Einar as her own. Erik agreed without a second thought.
Soon, Erik was released after Bor 'discovered' that the soldier Erik killed was 'plotting treason', revealed to him by an 'anonymous stranger'. Erik dedicated the rest of his time to his family from then on, rather than selfishly... at least, at first. Soon, though, he was back to his old ways. Violence, drinking, indulging in everything and anything he could, until he was eventually banished. Einar having been roped into most of it, witness to his father's violence and toxic self-indulgence. This was around the time Odin took the throne.
Einar's mother knew about the deal, and hoped to guide Einar to a path of life that would avoid having children, believing the 'death child' would result in Ragnarok. As Einar grew up, following in his father's footsteps and becoming violent, arrogant, and all, he grew up alongside a woman named 'Kara', who aspired to become one of the Valkyries. Kara was a woman with much potential from a well-liked family. Which was a stark contrast to Einar, who, by that point, the other Asgardians were tired of. Eventually, Kara helped Einar meet a woman he'd eventually marry, and they had a child... a baby girl. This was a relief to Einar's mother, at first, seeing as Death wanted a boy... but that relief wouldn't last long.
Kara married a man and had a daughter, too, Malin. (Thor was born around this time.) Einar's wife, at some point, ended up going mad, and was banished alongside her daughter after Einar left her. Kara left her husband soon after, meeting Einar again with Malin. Einar and Kara would eventually 'fall in love', a toxic love. From this union came Einar's first son: Brynjar. (Loki was brought to Asgard around the time Brynjar was born.)
Kara's relationship with Einar was toxic, with Kara having to abandon her asperations in order to care for the family with the help of her equally abusive parents. Einar would neglect the children just as his father did to him, and Kara would eventually fall into the habit of locking herself in their cellar and drinking into the night. Becuase of this, Malin effectively had to raise Brynjar, along with Kara's parents. What's worse: Brynjar was born with Autism and ADHD, which were both not entirely well-researched in Asgard.
Kara and Einar forbayed Brynjar from ever leaving their home, and soon, Kara's parents left. To make matters worse? Malin's father appeared and kidnapped her, fleeing Asgard in the night. Thus, Brynjar was truly alone...
For many years, it remained that way. Brynjar neglected by his parents with no escape, and when they didn't neglect him, they'd abuse him. His father leaving bruises, his mother hissing insults, and both of them emotionally tormenting him and treating him without a shred of respect.
...Then, something changed: Brynjar saw someone outside. Loki. When Loki realized what they thought was an empty house actually had someone inside, they were a bit surprised. The house was disgusting, after all. It didn't take long, however, for Loki to figure out what was going on.
Soon, they found they had a lot in common, and Brynjar began sneaking out of the house to see his friend... his only friend. Loki wasn't used to meeting someone so friendly to him, as usually, people would disrespect them outright, sometimes in front of others. Loki and Brynjar bonded over their shared loves of magic, over their familial problems, their love of books, and their love of mischief. Eventually getting to the point that they were near-inseperable. (Save for the times Brynjar had to go back inside before anyone realized he was gone, anyway.)
Time passed, years of the two spending time together. Loki even helping Brynjar to learn some magic of his own. Then Brynjar was almost killed by his father one night, while Einar was in a drunken rage. Loki was furious about this, but... nothing they did ever worked. It was like Brynjar's parents always had some kind of excuse to use that would get them out of being punished or action being taken. (Or maybe it was Death, who knows?)
This coming to a head when, one day, Loki found out that Brynjar had attempted suicide. Then, finding themself in a situation where they had to talk Brynjar down from a suicide attempt, even. As Brynjar contemplated jumping off the Bifrost bridge.
Brynjar started going without sneaking out, seeing Loki without caring about not 'being allowed' to leave at this point. It became that people started seeing Brynjar and Loki as a pair, and Thor was more than happy that his brother had a friend. ...Though when people realized this 'friend' was Brynjar, son of Einar? At that point, Einar was well-known to be violent and untrustworthy. So given how badly Asgard thought about Loki already, thoughts went from seeing them as friends, to assuming Brynjar was becoming Loki's 'evil lackey'.
Then, the events of Thor's banishment, Loki hesitantly taking the throne as Odin went into the Odinsleep. Brynjar was there to support Loki, but... then, Loki let go of the Bifrost, supposedly commiting suicide and being assumed dead. Brynjar was crushed, even more so when nobody seemed to care enough to give Loki a funeral.
Brynjar stayed away from his 'home' for weeks following Loki's death, and by the time he returned, Einar was waiting for him, despite Brynjar being a grown man by that point. Einar still treating him like a child, trying to grab him by the throat and drag him into their house again, in the same manner he had when he tried to kill Brynjar. ...Brynjar just saw red. The next thing he knew, he had a soldier's sword stabbed through his chest. Einar beaten black and blue, and the soldiers who were called, recalling his relationship with Loki, his family history, and his odd behavior, deciding to put Brynjar down like a rabid dog.
Brynjar died, but was soon face-to-face with Mistress Death herself. Mistress Death explained that Brynjar was her son, not just some Asgardian. Brynjar eventually awoke, rushing off into the night before anyone could see him. To everyone else, Brynjar's lifeless corpse had somehow disappeared. Some assuming he'd gone to Valhalla.
Brynjar used what magic he had, along with his newfound abilities as 'son of Death' to avoid detection, not sure of where else he could go. ...Simply... drifting for that entire year. Then, Loki reappeared on Earth, and Brynjar overheard this, immediately setting course for the planet using an old shortcut he remembered Loki showing him. When he arrived, he found Loki right before Iron man and Captain America could catch them. ...There was a moment of pause, as Brynjar noticed how unhealthy Loki seemed, and how out of character Loki was acting. Then, Captain and Iron man arrived on the scene, and Brynjar immediately took a defensive position, using his shapeshifting powers to try to keep them away from Loki. Loki, meanwhile, hadn't expected Brynjar to show up.
Brynjar noticed Loki's eyes. Once green, now suddenly as blue as the scepter in his hand. When captured after the scuffle with Thor and brought to the helicarrier, they were questioned separately. Brynjar was aggressive, like a cornered animal, and refusing to answer any questions. Brynjar could tell something was wrong, Loki wasn't themself, and he could tell it had something to do with that scepter. Regardless, though, he refused to leave Loki's side, remaining loyal to one of the two people who were ever truly kind to him.
After the New York fight was all over, Brynjar was determined not to let Loki be taken back to Asgard. Not yet. So, he delved into his Death-cat ability, which he had previously been too afraid of to use. Afraid he might go on a bloody rampage and become the monster many assumed he'd become. It did work, the others caught entirely off-guard by the sudden transformation. Brynjar managed to get Loki away from the city, and it was there that he could finally speak to Loki, who'd been taken out of his brainwashing by Hulk earlier.
Loki had a mixture of emotions running through them at that point. They had no idea what to say, do, or even what to think... but Brynjar was here, now. Brynjar stuck by them even after everything. It was here, after a bit of time to collect himself, that Loki finally told Brynjar everything, as they hid from the world. About being Jotun, letting go of the Bifrost, finding themself at Thanos' doorstep, being tortured for that year they'd been away, and the mind stone's manipulation that caused his eyes to turn blue.
Brynjar being the one person Loki could confide in, the one person who'd proven that Loki could trust them. Brynjar proving it again as he comforts Loki and listens to them without judgement. It's at that point they realize, almost in unison, that they care far more about each other than just 'friends'...
Random extra content:
In-canon for this AU, Brynjar is known by Earth mythology as the god of chaos, and many Earth stories assumed he was Loki's lover already. (Much like how Earth mythology assumed Loki was Thor's uncle, not his brother.)
Brynjar does not have nearly as much magic ability as Loki does. He only knows about as much as Loki was able to teach him, since nobody else was willing.

Touya hadn’t meant to miss the call, hadn’t meant to make you listen to his voicemail box one, two, three times.
Hadn’t meant to make you cry to a silent line.
But when he finally has time to click that voicemail, your sobs crackling through the speaker, he doesn’t let it finish after that first broken I need you.
It doesn’t matter that you haven’t talked in 6 months, doesn’t matter that he’s celebrating a great ride, doesn’t matter that he’s had a couple beers.
What matters is that you’re not picking up, one, two, three calls later.
Doesn’t matter that he’s tearing down the dark road way faster than he should, phone on speaker on his dash and fist beating the steering wheel so hard he’s sure it’ll bruise.
What matters is the one, two, three, four voicemails he leaves telling you he’ll be there in four, three, two minutes.
What matters is the one, two minutes he spends banging on your door before remembering he never returned your key, leaving it open when he tears it wide and rushes in.
The two, three, four leaps it takes to get up your stairs hardly register to him.
All that matters is the sight of you, just you, lying on the bathroom floor, crying so hard that it shakes your whole body.
Because it doesn’t matter if it takes one, two, three, four hours… he’ll be there until it stops.

AU ideas 7/?
Universe basis: Copyverse (S/I universe for Marvel.)
Main characters: Copycat/Blake - In this, he's referred to as simply 'cat'. Loki - Suddenly surrounded by prehistoric fuckery.
Genres?: ?
Warnings?: -Violence -Not proofread, haha
Changes: -It's prehistoric now, lol. (Not entirely accurate, but it's meant to be fantasy, so-) -Copycat's first character arc is slightly further along by the time he meets Loki.
Idea synopsis: Many in Asgard saw Earth as a primitive place. They'd seen enough of it when they first visited, and were no longer interested after locking away the Frost giants. They barely spent any time on it, considering the planet nothing but a wilderness.
Loki never visited Earth, as like most Asgardians, they heard the tales of primitive people no smarter than animals and was simply never interested. It wasn't until Thor was banished to Earth that Loki finally had a reason to go there.
They went to Earth during the time between Thor's banishment and being forced to take the throne in the absence of both Thor and Odin. When they arrived, it was like nothing they'd seen before.
Towering paraceratherium, killer smildons, powerful megatherium, and vicious terror birds. There was an immediate sense of dread in Loki's chest as they realized how dangerous this world was to their brother, now that Thor didn't have his powers. The fear that Thor was in danger, or worse - already dead - gripped them in that moment.
Loki briefly considered returning to Asgard, given there was no need to keep Thor away since he was likely not thinking about coming back at this point, but at the same time, Loki couldn't imagine leaving Thor to die, even despite the recent realization that Loki was a frost giant making them sadly hesitate to continue calling themself Thor's brother.
At first, Loki thought to send the warriors four, but if they did that, they were sure the group would only make the situation worse back in Asgard. Hell, they may even advocate to put Thor on the throne when they bring Thor back! Loki couldn't allow it, there was too much risk.
So, Loki put their plans on hold for the moment, steeling himself to search Earth instead.
The more Loki searched, the more worried they became. Dire wolves, cavelions, short-faced bears, it was like the world was specifically designed to be deadly to a person.
At first, Loki assumed these creatures had wiped out the few neanderthals that existed. After all, some of them were much larger than even a Jotun, how could any primitive humans stand a chance?
...That is, until Loki discovered one. Or rather... this one discovered them.
A large smilodon had found Loki just as they teleported back to their last checkpoint to continue their search. Almost instantly, Loki was attacked in an ambush. Of course, Loki is the prince of a race of warriors, they know how to handle themself, but the smilodon was not alone. Whereas Loki previously thought they were solitary hunters, it turned out not to be the case, and soon, Loki was surrounded by an entire group of giant blade-toothed cats.
Just before Loki was about to use their magic to teleport away, however, a massive black paraceratherium appeared. The smilodons were caught-off guard, and a fight broke out, but the smilodons were quickly driven away by the beast.
Loki watched in astonishment as the creature shrank and shifted before their very eyes, and what was left was... a person. Loki hadn't even known the creatures on Earth could wield magic, and neither did anyone in Asgard.
The man in front of him looked back, and for a moment, there was only shocked and confused silence. The man clothed in primitive clothing and a cloak made of a smilodon's skin. The man came closer to Loki, and it became clear after a moment of hesitance that he was trying to figure Loki out, not used to seeing people with such colorful clothing, or metal. Loki attempted to communicate with him, but it went about as well as one may expect.
Loki: "My name is Loki, god of mischief. You are...?" The guy: "...?" Loki, gesturing to themself: "...Loki." The guy: "...Loki?" Loki: "Yes, and you are?" The guy, confused: "...?" Loki: "...Your name." The guy: "'Name'...?"
Ultimately, Loki had to jump through hoops to even somewhat communicate with him. The guy eventually divulged that he was called 'Cat', which is also what cave-people called the smilodons. Loki felt the need to try to communicate with him in some attempt to gain a better understanding of what was going on, and hopefully, get a clue as to where Thor went.
After a few minutes, he did get some information, thankfully. "...Big fell out of sky, land not far. ...Big thing, like club."
Loki convinced him to show them where it is, and sure enough, Loki found it - Thor's hammer. Good. After a moment of thought, Loki attempted to pick it up, but found it was impossible. Cat watched them for a moment, and after Loki gave up, they tried to communicate to Cat that they were looking for who the hammer belonged to. Loki soon discovered communicating was easier through use of pictures, and Cat eventually understood.
Funny enough, as they left, Cat casually walked over and picked up the hammer to bring with them, making Loki freeze for a moment. "...Yes? Need hammer find owner. Take it with." That was the only response Cat gave, which made sense given Cat can't read Asgardian runes.
Loki didn't mean for Cat to just be following them, but now Loki had an escort, it seemed. Loki and Cat encountered a few groups of Cave-People after that, but they wouldn't let Cat get close. Loki wasn't sure why until one night when they decided to ask.
"Cat's birth tribe bad. Tribe invades, kills, hates. Cat left but they still fear cat. Think I plan to lead tribe to them." He replied.
Loki initially teleported away each night back to Asgard to sleep in their own bed, away from the danger, but eventually came to regret that after returning once to find their camp was ambushed. Not only was Cat gone, who knew more about this place than Loki did and helped them through it, but Cat also had Mjolnir, which Loki absolutely could not let get lost.
The tribe who stole Cat and Mjolnir turned out to be Cat's birth tribe, and after using their magic to make the tribe think they were being attacked by frost giants, Cat found himself going from thinking Loki was a friend, to gaining a crush on them. ...Of course, Cat being a primitive cave-person, they were far less likely to hide it, and... didn't. "Loki pretty, like north sky lights." Was the very first thing that Loki heard when they were far enough away from the tribe.
Loki was obviously taken aback by the abrupt compliment. But putting that aside, Loki had to figure out what to do about Cat at night. Loki can't just stay on Earth for the whole search, especially since Loki has to deal with Laufey, Asgard, and keeping everyone from realizing what Loki is doing behind the scenes. ...But at the same time?
Loki hesitated to do it, but it was increasingly obvious that bringing Cat to Asgard with them was the only safe option. So, from that point on, Loki did so. Cat didn't even need to be asked, simply laying on the floor so Loki could sleep comfortably in their bed.
Loki did what they could to avoid people realizing Cat was there, but eventually, while Loki was off doing some royal duty, Cat left Loki's room to explore Asgard's palace. He thankfully left Mjolnir hidden in Loki's room, but still... there was a shirtless shapeshifting guy who can't understand Asgardians running around. Thankfully, the only person who seemed to notice, aside from Heimdahl, was Frigga.
Ultimately, this led to Loki needing to explain what was going on to Frigga. (Obviously not divulging the behind the scenes parts, but explaining that Earth was more dangerous than expected.) Frigga couldn't go against Odin's decree, and as acting ruler, Loki had final say in how they'd respond, so Frigga couldn't send anyone after him. Though Frigga could sense Cat's ability, and in confidence, she asked him to make sure Loki didn't get into trouble. ...Cat barely understood her, but he got the basic gist of what she said.
From that point on, Loki decided it's probably best to teach Cat how to fit in so he doesn't attract attention while in Asgard. Leading to a compounding of stress on top of their already stressful situation; teaching Cat to fit into Asgard, teaching Cat how to speak Asgardian, teleporting back to Earth to search for Thor, dealing with ruling Asgard, keeping Laufey from getting impatient with their plans, and on top of that, keeping everyone in the dark over what Loki's doing behind the scenes.
All of this, including the timer of the odinsleep, the constant worry that Thor was already dead, and the dangers around every corner on Earth, all obviously led to Loki to basically be sending themself into a spiral of stress. Cat recognized this and tried his best to help, but it was difficult. All this stress also resulted in Loki getting distracted and nearly dying while in conflict with a tribe who seemed to have encountered Thor at one point. Cat managed to help just in time, and after it was all said and done, he stopped everything to try to help comfort Loki, embracing them without much warning.
Loki stopped briefly, but ultimately, the gesture was appreciated, and Loki, desperate to finally get out all these feelings after shutting them in for so long, vented to Cat about everything. Cat, at this point, could understand Loki's words a bit more, so he could understand the basics of what Loki was saying.
"...That's... a lot." He replied. "Loki doesn't deserve all this stress. ...But Loki also not need to do all this."
"I'm not going to abandon Thor."
"Not what Cat was talking about. ...Loki is greatest person Cat has ever known, not need to prove anything." Loki came to realize Cat was a bit too smart for his own good, as despite not telling Cat about the plan to kill Laufey and destroy Jotunheim, Cat somehow figured it out himself.
"You don't know anything about that."
"No, but Cat knows Cat. They say Cat is monster for Cat's birth tribe. Cat's sister always got praise instead of Cat. ...Loki came from bad tribe, Loki's family praise Loki's brother over Loki. Not mean Loki is bad, Loki is not a monster. ...Not to Cat." Cat's language was still pretty broken, but the sentiment was clear enough. Loki didn't know how to respond to that, and Cat quickly added: "Monster wouldn't be looking for brother. Monster wouldn't help Cat when Cat was taken. Loki did those things, not monster."
Obviously, that didn't break through the barrier completely. Stuff like that doesn't happen overnight, after all.
Eventually, Loki did find Thor. Thor was with another tribe of Cave-People, including a woman Thor seemed to have grown very attached to. The initial response was aggression as they realized Cat was there, and it quickly devolved into a fight between Thor and Cat when Thor realized Cat had Mjolnir, before Loki stepped in, making Thor stop in his tracks.
Loki hesitated, still seeing Thor as the hot-headed man who couldn't be allowed to take the throne or Asgard would be plunged into immediate war. Still, Loki decided to put-off any immediate action, dodging any questions Thor had about their father, instead opting to understand what was going on with this new tribe Thor discovered. That was until Thor decided to let off the bombshell that was his infatuation with one of the tribe's women.
Loki and Thor got into a slight argument about it, during which, an attack happened on the tribe's village, as Cat's tribe appeared to invade it. Because of how it looked, Thor and a few of the other tribesmen (The Avengers, lol) immediately assumed Cat had something to do with it, and in the midst of the chaos, Cat started being targeted.
Thor nearly died in the attack, but due to a selfless act of heroic self-sacrifice, Thor regained his worthiness of Mjolnir and regained his armor, beating back Cat's tribe. Loki was shocked, then immediately jumped to stop Thor before he could turn Mjolnir onto Cat.
This was when the odinsleep ceased, and the bifrost was summoned to return Thor and Loki back to Asgard. Stowing away by accident was Cat and Thor's new love. Odin was furious to find Thor not only fell in love with some primitive woman from Earth, but also seeing Loki seemingly having done the same with some primitive man.
All of this mounted when finally, Laufey attacked, having gotten sick of waiting all this time and not realizing Odin was awake. Chaos ensued, and Cat immediately rushed off to help stop the Jotuns from hurting anyone. Loki and Laufey had a confrontation at one point, with Laufey soon realizing Loki is the son he abandoned.
After all this, Loki realizes their mistakes, and tries to rectify them, leading to the cathartic and symbolic murder of Laufey at Loki's hands. With this, the rest of the Frost giants fall back, the truth of Loki's involvement is revealed, and Odin yet again refuses Loki's attempt to prove themself as worthy.
This time, though, Cat is there. Loki uses their magic to teleport both themself and Cat away from Asgard. Cat finds themself back on Earth, but away from the tribes.
There's a long swath of silence. Then, Loki asks Cat if he really thinks Loki isn't a monster, even after everything that just happened. "I don't think you're a monster at all, and I'd be willing to help you see that... I know you're worth the time."
Loki sighs, and hesitantly, Loki wraps their arms around Cat, who happily hugs them back.
Extra stuff:
Fun fact: Copycat in the normal continuity can pick up Mjolnir too, but that's after spending time with Loki for a bit. (Since in this, Copycat is already living by himself, whereas in the normal continuity, he meets Loki right after he's on his own.) Copycat doesn't do anything with Mjolnir, it's mostly symbolism.
I didn't name Jane in this story for the same reason I didn't name any other cave-people: I couldn't think of how to make their names sound prehistoric without it sounding dumb. Oops.
Does Loki and Blake stay on Earth? ...Maybe?
Austin is a Sabertooth tiger that shows up every so often. Austin was discovered by Cat as a cub, abandoned, and Cat nursed it back to health and raised the cub.
Sometimes, a family is a caveman, a caveman's sabertooth tiger, and a god of mischief.

Thinking about how Shanks will keep a list of all the places he wants to take you—how he’ll stand staring at the prettiest view he’s ever seen and wish you were with him, and promise himself that next time he’ll drag you along no matter how much you huff and moan, just because he knows that awed look on your face will put to shame whatever picturesque scene he’s found.
